As you can tell by the fact that I have two posts today, I wasn't able to get yesterdays posted last night. After it was all said and done we got to bed after 10:30 (closer to 11:00) even though she was a little bit awake when we went to bed, Maria quickly fell asleep I think she was worn out with her crying. She only had one time that she woke up and that was between 2 and 3 (normal times for her) but we were up early today. After our morning that we had I do think today is going to be a rough day it was an exact replica of last night. Rocking didn’t work, feeding her didn’t work, singing didn’t work, reading to her didn’t work finally a little time in the swing calmed her down enough for my morning to continue.
We were up at 4:30 this morning actually 4:21 to be precise. Our Monday morning started off like usual get out of bed try to be quiet since it is so early and let me get in a quick nap since we are up before the alarm. Only today she was she didn't want to be held she didn't want to eat she didn't want to do anything so my normal rocking chair routine of getting in a quick nap before the alarm goes off didn't work. We sat in the chair until about 5:00 and then it was time for me to get up and get ready for the day. While she was in the swing I was able to eat a quick breakfast and pump out her breakfast. (I hate it when she doesn't eat in the morning and I have to pump instead. It's just less time for her and me to cuddle and bond but I have to do what's best for her!) Then it was get dressed, brush teeth and hair, finish the load of laundry I started last night so that Maria will have diapers for today, let Diamond out, and pack my bag for work. Breast pump? Check. Wallet? Check. Keys? Check. Phone? Check. What am I forgetting? Lunch! But that is okay I've got leftovers at work so I don’t have to worry about making anything. Let Diamond in, kiss Donnie, kiss Maria, hit the door and hit the traffic I mean drive into work.
As far as our rough night and morning go we are pretty sure Maria has colic and she is being treated for gastro esphogial reflux disease (GERD). We have tried just about everything in the book to help her feel better. Right now the hands soothers seem to work. Sitting up most of the day seems to help too but she can’t do much of that on her own in her Bumbo chair because while she is really strong she still has problems holding up her head after a long time. Her Mylacon drops work sometimes and sometimes they don't. Sometimes swing time works sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes cuddling her and walking the floor is the only thing that'll help and sometimes even that doesn't work. If none of those work we are in for a really rough time. We try swaddling her. We try soothing her with her pacifier. The only thing that we haven't tried is a long car ride because I don't want her to get used to sleeping in a car to feel better.
I know her tummy hurts and we are on our second bout of medication to try and fix it. She takes a dose of Previcid every day and it seems to be working although it hasn't helped with her spitting up. The Zantac she took helped with the spitting up but not the pain. I would much rather have to deal with changing clothes than her crying from pain.
Speaking of spitting up Maria has a tendency to vomit. A lot. We go through bibs like crazy (usually three to four a day) her receiving blankets have turned into spit up towels (they are big and soft), burp cloths turn into more towels and all we do is clean her up and change clothes when she misses her bib, the towel, or she actually projectiles her vomit. I will say that I have a new favorite brand of bib, Tommy Tippy. The bibs have a thick soft ring around the collar that soak up any spit, dribble of milk, or meds that spill out of her mouth. To help combat her colic we also use Dr. Brown's bottles specifically designed to help prevent colic. I don’t know if they do or don’t help. I thought about trying the Tommy Tippy brand of bottle as well since they too have a colic model but I don’t know if it will do anything. It seems like everyone has a colic bottle anymore and I don't even know that they work. All I want to do is make sure that Maria is comfortable as she deals with her painful tummy.
Hopefully work goes by quick today and I get home a little bit early so I can relieve Donnie in case he had a rough day with her and he needs to finish up any projects for work.
Good news at the end of the day Maria was an awesome baby girl for daddy! Daddy was awesome and he made spaghetti.
